Hello Friend,

I hope you are well,

Another month, another monthly review. For the most part, this month has been pretty quiet and relaxed in comparison to the past 12 months or so.

It’s funny, every time I start writing a monthly review I always think back to what I was doing this time last year. I think on this exact date last year, Jennie and I were in Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand watching some live, Muay Thai boxing. Even now I can still hear the vicious kicks crunching into the fighters rib cages and skulls. Ouch!

Fast forward to today, here I am watching the rain crashing into the kitchen window next to where I’m sat. How times have changed! God, I loved Thailand!

Anyways, what have I been up to this month?

Highlights Of The Month

Ilkley Half Marathon

It’s been a long time coming but I have finally completed my first ever half marathon! I wouldn’t exactly say I felt a ‘runners high’ after finishing let’s put it that way. The best way I could describe the finishing feeling is: a strange blend of mental disorientation of not really knowing what was going on, with a small dose of euphoria topped off with a big heap of relief! To say it was difficult is an understatement, it was brutal!

According to my Strava I managed a time of 2:09:43 not exactly setting any records but I’m proud of myself nonetheless. It was a great experience. Although I don’t think my legs and knees would entirely agree with that one!

Who knows, I might even run another one later on this year…

Movie Night

Prior to this cinema trip, me and Jennie hadn’t been to the Cinema for 7 months or so, with the last time being in Penang, Malaysia. Before our travels we used to go watch a movie at the cinema all the time so it was good to be back. We eventually settled on chose watching Oppenheimer. An awesome movie, probably the best one I’ve watched in a while. An easy 10/10 for me.

Most Interesting Things I’ve Learnt This Month

  • Sudan has more pyramids than any country in the world
  • Scotland has 421 words for snow
  • Japan has one vending machine for every 40 people

Favourite Quote Of The Month

“It is not the man who has too little, but the man who craves more, that is poor. ” — Seneca

Goals Update

  • Figure out how to work and make money remotely:

Ongoing…

  • Read a book a week — Weeks so far this year: 30. Books read: 35. Going swimmingly!
  • Learn how to play chess properly — Complete
  • Run a half marathon — Complete

Future Plans

Nothing too major planned for now, Jennie and I have booked to go to our second home Malta for 8 days in mid October, and apart from that, it’s all quiet on the western front (another great movie btw!). Any major updates in the mean time you’ll be my first port of call!

See you soon,

Yours Sincerely,

Tom
