August Life Update

Hello Friend,

I hope you are well,

I don’t know if it’s just me, but August seems to have gone by in a flash. I guess what they say is true: time flies when you’re having fun, and I must say, this month has been really fun and special!

As I mentioned in my last monthly review post, every time I start writing a monthly update post, I always think back to what I was up to this time last year…

On this day last year, me and Jennie had just arrived on the tiny, beautiful island of Thai island of Koh Tao, which as it turns out was probably my favourite island we visited.

Brunching, chilling and reading in Koh Tao. What a life!

So what’s been going on in August?

Highlights of the Month

Happy 7 Year Anniversary!

August 28th is always a special day, it’s mine and Jennie’s anniversary. We’ve now been together for 7 whole years! We are officially an old, yet young, couple.

In our usual style to celebrate the occasion we headed out for a massive, delicious three course meal at a restaurant we’ve never been to before. It goes without saying we both made light work of the meal! How else would you celebrate an anniversary? For us, food will always be the best way to celebrate.

I’m so grateful to have such an amazing partner in crime by my side. Not only is she my nearest and dearest, but she is my best friend and I wouldn’t change her for the world!

Here’s to 77 more years together!

Hiking Ingleborough

Ingleborough is the second highest mountain in the Yorkshire Dales with an elevation of 723 metres high. Ingleborough makes up one part of the famous three peaks (the other two peaks being Whernside and Pen-y-ghent). Beforehand, Ingleborough was the only ‘peak’ which I hadn’t completed, so now, I am officially a member of the three peaks club! It’s been a while since me and Jennie have been on a long mountain hike so it was nice to be hitting the mountains again.

It was the perfect way to round off the perfect weekend anniversary weekend (and burn off all the calories from the previous nights meal!)

Most Interesting Thing I’ve Learnt This Month

Former Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, was a prisoner of war in the Anglo-Boer War in 1899, but managed to escape after a month. On his return he was hailed as a hero in England!

Favourite Quote This Month

Goals Update

  • Figure out how to work and make money remotely:

No progress here…

  • Read a book a week — Weeks so far this year: 35. Books read: 38. We are ahead of schedule. My book completions have slowed down this past month, partly because I’ve been reading a 1000 page behemoth biography on Winston Churchill!
  • Learn how to play chess properly — Completed
  • Run a half marathon — Completed

Another half marathon… in bound! Me, Jennie and a couple of friends have signed up to run the Manchester Half Marathon on 15th of October. Hopefully with some better training it can’t be as painful as my last one. Can it?

Future Plans

Next month will be relatively quiet I think. It’s Jennie’s birthday on the 10th of September, so we’ll be celebrating in one way or another. Apart from that, it’s work, work and work for now and we will continue to weigh up our next move.

But for now, it’s farewell from me,

See you next time,

Yours Sincerely,

Tom
