Month Review — May
Hello Friend,
I hope you are well,
After returning home from Malta on the 5th, Jennie and I have been at home sweet home. How boring… just kidding! It’s been another great month, one that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed and definitely made the most of.
So, what have been some of the highlights of this month?
Highlights of the month
Fell Race
This month I participated in my first ever fell race. It was awful but very enjoyable at the same time. Running/power walking/ambling up what seemed the worlds steepest hill, strong winds and heavy rain ploughing straight into my face, slipping and sliding everywhere in my brand spanking new bright blue trainers, finishing 36th out of 42 runners, it was a humbling experience to say the least. I can categorically say it was the toughest run I’ve ever done!
But on reflection, I really enjoyed it and will definitely compete in another one in the future.
1940’s Weekend
Every Haworth (my hometown) hosts one of the biggest 1940’s themed events in the UK. Haworth is transformed to celebrate the 1940’s with vintage vehicles, re-enactments and food and stalls set up all around the village. It’s a brilliant weekend to be a part of. The weather on 1940’s weekends always seems to turn out perfect too which always helps, some would say perfect beer drinking weather so much so I even broke my sobriety!
Trips Up’ Dale
Since we’ve had such glorious weather this month, it would’ve been a shame not to make the most of it with some trips to the Yorkshire Dales. Jennie and I took trips to the villages of Appletreewick and Stainforth. Both are perfect places to soak up the sunshine and relax by the river. Even after travelling around South East Asia, in my limited experience, there isn’t much that beats a day out in the Yorkshire Dales when the weather is so perfect.
What I’ve learnt
- 88% of American drivers think they’re above average at driving
- There are roughly 50 billion birds in the world
- 11 minutes of daily exercise could have a positive impact on your health — less than 1 percent of your day!
Goals Update
- Figure out how to work and make money remotely:
Ongoing….
- Read a book a week:
Weeks so far this year: 21. Books read: 24. Well on track.
- Learn how to play chess properly:
A slight improvement this month in my chess abilities. Still pretty poor, but slowly progressing!
- Run half a marathon
I’m running much more frequently this month. Still half a marathon to book though…
Future Plans
I think for the next month or so, it’ll be pretty quiet in the life of Jennie and Tom. Normal life has taken a stronghold of both of us now. So much so that I’m even returning to work. Very sad times indeed. Well, it’s certainly been a good run of tossing it off to say the least! Any plans we do make I’ll be sure to let you know.
That’s all for now folks!
See you next time,
Yours Sincerely
Tom
