A New Experience

Hello Friend,

I hope you are well,

Last Wednesday night, I participated in my first ever fell race. It was awful! Running/ambling/power walking up what seemed the worlds steepest hill, getting pissed wet through in the heavy rain, strong winds blasting straight into my face — it wasn’t exactly the most pleasant experience. To top it all off, I finished only a few places in front of last place. I believe I finished a lowly 36th out of 42 runners. Shocking!

There I was in my brand spanking new, bright blue road running trainers. Slipping and sliding all over the place in the mud, nearly breaking my ankle on numerous occasions on the rocky and steep descent. Looking back now, it probably looked hilarious!

Even though I’m making it all sound like a terrible experience, on reflection, I really enjoyed it and I would like to take part in another fell race in the future. I may have have been way out of my depth and probably looked a bit silly, but I have definitely gained and grown from the situation.

Trying Something New

When trying something new, you’re probably going to be terrible, maybe even feel a bit stupid. Embrace it. New things are good for us. They are part of becoming better and stronger people.

New experiences can be daunting but just remember what Vincent Van Gogh once said ‘What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?’

Don’t be afraid to try something new because it’ll do you a whole world of good.

See you next time,

Yours Sincerely,

Tom
